The Phoenix 2026 Slot Holder Application process opens July 27. This is your chance to be part of the world’s richest greyhound race and line yourself up for a share of the $1.65 million in prizemoney, and potentially the $1 million winners cheque.

1. Apply for a slot

Whether you're a business, a greyhound lover, club, organisation or a group of friends – you're welcome to apply and be in the race for the $1 million prize cheque and the $1.65 million in prize money. Anyone can apply, however, should you be one of the eight chosen by the Melbourne Greyhounds independent Phoenix Racing Panel, you'll need $100,000 to secure your place.

What is well known by all past slot holders and their own experiences, is the lead up to the race, the exposure and the chance to make your fortune is real. And prize money is paid all the way down to 8th place, with places 5, 6, 7 and 8 each receiving $50,000.

2. Choose your chaser

When you head out to the The Meadows to watch world-class greyhound racing, you can choose to place a bet on any runner you like. Slot holders too have the same freedom – however, they get to choose who'd they'd like to have run on their behalf in the race.

We understand, buying a slot in the world's richest greyhound race is not for everyone. However, trust us when we say being on-course to watch it is!

Last year saw over 1500 people roll into The Meadows, to be part of the biggest party in greyhound racing. The concourse, The Terrace, The Deck and Temlee Dining Room were awash with people enjoying a phenomenal Melbourne Greyhounds hospitality experience.

2026 promises to be even bigger and better!

A history full of 'wow' moments.

First run in December 2021, The Phoenix is the newest, most exciting race to hit the greyhound racing calendar in recent memory. In 2022 the event become the richest greyhound race in the world, with total prize money hitting $1.65 million, including $1 million going to the winning slot holder.

The first two editions of The Phoenix saw unprecedented media coverage and the Jackie Greenough trained Wow She’s Fast go back-to-back, elevating her as the highest prize money earner of all time. Then it was a pizza shop owners turn with Schillaci and Jihad Talgi teaming up with the Ladbrokes Racing Club to take out the strongest edition of the race to date. A year later Team Thompson swept to victory with Explicit for Awesome Lodge.

Last year it was Team Thompson again, with DB Constructions and Deadly Avenger in a master move who won The Phoenix.
