The countdown to the world’s richest greyhound race is officially on.

Following approval from the Greyhound Racing Integrity Unit (GRIU) and selection by the Independent Assessment Panel (IAP), the eight slot holders for the 2026 edition of The Phoenix have been confirmed.

With $1.65 million in prizemoney up for grabs at The Meadows, the successful slot holders will now turn their attention to finding the greyhound capable of delivering Phoenix glory.

MGRA CEO Scott Wuchatsch said the announcement marks the beginning of another exciting chapter for The Phoenix.

“Each year The Phoenix continues to grow in stature, and given the unprecedented interest in the slot application process, we’re expecting 2026 to be no different.

 

“The calibre and diversity of this year’s slot holders will bring fresh stories, new rivalries and plenty of excitement as we build towards the biggest night on the greyhound racing calendar.”

 

With the eight slots now locked in, the race to secure a Phoenix contender begins.
