Melbourne Metropolitan Clubs Introduce Temporary Boost to Unplaced Prizemoney

Melbourne Greyhounds prizemoney changes

Participants in the Victorian greyhound racing industry will receive a timely financial boost, with Melbourne metropolitan clubs announcing a temporary increase to unplaced prizemoney at selected race meetings.

In a joint initiative, Sandown Greyhound Racing Club and the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) will introduce a $30 payment for greyhounds finishing in 5th through 8th positions at all Monday and Wednesday metropolitan race meetings.

The initiative has been designed to help offset rising travel costs faced by trainers and owners, while also encouraging stronger participation across second-tier metropolitan meetings.

Under the temporary structure, the additional prizemoney will be seamlessly processed through the FastTrack system, ensuring efficient delivery within the existing Greyhound Racing Victoria prizemoney framework. Officials say the move is expected to not only provide financial relief to participants but also support healthy nomination levels and maintain sustainable field sizes during the period.

The six-week initiative will commence at Sandown Park Greyhound Racing Track from next week (Monday April 20) and conclude on Wednesday, 27 May at The Meadows Greyhound Racing Track.

Industry stakeholders will be closely watching the impact of the measure, with the potential for similar initiatives to be considered in the future depending on its success.
