Meadows Icon inducted into the GCA Hall of Fame
During the recent Nationals carnival in South Australia, long-time Manager of The Meadows, Marg Long, was entered into the Greyhound Clubs Australia (GCA) Hall of Fame.
After beginning her administration career at Traralgon & Geelong in the 1980s & ‘90s, Marg then became the general manager of the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA), a role she held for 27 years.
During that time, Marg oversaw the most pivotal juncture in MGRA history as she was a key pillar in overseeing the move from Olympic Park to the greenfields site that was to become the iconic venue known as The Meadows.
From humble beginnings and with limited finances, Marg helped develop The Meadows into one of the world’s premier greyhound racing venues highlighted by traditional time-honoured races like the Australian Cup & Silver Chief, and innovative group 1 races such as The Topgun and The Temlee.
Marg was one of four inductees on the night joining Judi Hurley (breeder/trainer & administrator), Brenton Scott (administrator) & Jan Wheeler (owner & breeder) as new inductees.
Marg Long was also inducted into the Greyhound Racing Victoria Hall of Fame in 2016 while still in her position as General Manager of the MGRA.
