Meet new MGRA Life Member ‘Herbie’

James ‘Herbie’ Kirk becomes an MGRA Life Member

Local legend James ‘Herbie’ Kirk in now a life member of the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association, after receiving the honour at the Club’s AGM on Monday night.

A member since 1983, Herbie has been a regular fixture at The Meadows race meetings for as long as most can remember, rarely missing a Wednesday or Saturday night meeting.

Still an active trainer at 92 years old (he trained Aston Laurent to multiple wins at The Meadows in 2022), Herbie always greets staff and fellow participants with a smile and a kind word.

“Herbie is a stalwart of the MGRA, who has contributed greatly to the fabric of the Club over many years and is a worthy recipient of life membership” said outgoing MGRA Chair Eddie Caruana.

Life Membership is awarded in recognition of lengthy and or meritorious service to the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association
