Dual G1 winner set for Sensational Phoenix return
Initially thought to be out of consideration for The Phoenix, Slick Splits has recovered from injury and is set to take his place for slot holder, Sporting Legends.
Sporting Legends – a gaming and bistro venue in Sale, Victoria – had been keeping a keen eye on his potential recovery from an elbow injury that forced him out of The Melbourne Cup series.
“We were hesitant to lock in a deal with anyone else until we knew how his injury was tracking and in the end it all came down to a trial on Monday at The Meadows” said Sporting Legends CEO, Ken Bailey.
In wet and wintery conditions, Slick Splits set a fast 24.60 post-to-post to prove to connections, and slot holders alike, that the two-time Group 1 winner was ready to return.
Slick Splits (9) takes out the G1 Topgun
“It is exciting to have the deal done now, and we look forward to getting to the box draw on Sunday and then to race night (on December 13)”
Trained by Tom Dailly, Slick Splits has built an imposing record at the Broadmeadows circuit with 8 wins and a placing from his 11 attempts over the 525m journey.
Interestingly, his three defeats at The Meadows have all come from Box 1 – albeit beaten by the likes of group stars Flying Zulu, Mepunga Reward & Tribeca – while he is undefeated from Boxes 2, 4, 5 & 6.
If the opportunity presents itself to select an inside draw, will connections bypass the coveted inside alleys?
