Mepunga Tully clocks fastest time in Australian Cup heats

With eight Group 1 Australian Cup heats alongside the Group 1 Temlee & Zoom Top, the first week of the 2025 Australian Cup Carnival promised unmissable performances, and it delivered in spades.

Mepunga Tully unquestionably provided the most unmissable performance from the heats, setting the time standard on the night by 4 lengths with a blistering display of speed on her way to a 29.58 personal best.

Early speed may have come to the fore in Mepunga Tully’s dominant win and Motion Sensor‘s impressive performance from the widest of draws, but the likes of Reaper, Canya All Class, Werris Bale and Zipping Hopkins all showed that strength can also win races on the big stage. Deadly Avenger & Utrillo Bale rounded out the heat wins in good fashion.

The heat winners will be joined in the semi-finals by the placegetters from their respective heats as well as the entire field from the G1 Temlee, lead by the Thompson Trifecta; Tim Zoo, Flying Zulu & Excavation.

With four Australian Cup semi-finals to be run on Saturday Feb 15, the top-two placegetters will make their way through to the $300,000 to-the-winner G1 Sportsbet Australian Cup on February 22.
