A hidden gem

A hidden gem

Great food. Great value. Great views. The City View Bistro offers the trifecta for a great night out.

A unique dining experience awaits you at ‘The Meadows’.

Open every Saturday night from 5:30 pm the all new City View Bistro offers diners commanding views of the Melbourne city skyline at dusk, (thanks to its level 1 elevation and aspect), as well as delicious dishes, crafted by our full-time in house head chef Steve Collins and his team.

It’s a unique place to dine and watch all the fast-paced action that comes with world-class Greyhound Racing or make a special occasion more fun and entertaining.

The bistro is suited to both family and adult dining. Tables can seat up to twelve guests and we can accommodate larger group bookings across multiple tables. This makes the bistro a wonderful option for a special occasion like a milestone birthday, Father’s Day or Mother’s Day gathering. We also cater for couples and doubles dining. The Temlee Dining Room has a limited number of ‘special’ tables on our lower terrace section. These tables offering amazing views of the track and are positioned up against the windows, atop of all the action and take in the city skyline view (there’s a picture in the gallery below).

Bistro classics, done better. Every hospitality team knows, if you can't provide great meals, great service and great value then why be in the game? Our game is to offer a unique night of entertainment, starting with the food.

Offering classically inspired and modern bistro dishes, there’s something to please any age, hunger and tastebud at The Melbourne Greyhounds City View Bistro. Seafood lovers have the opportunity to indulge in Pan Fried Barramundi or Reef & Reef. Those who prefer fare from off the land can tuck into a perfectly prepared Chargrilled Scotch Fillet Steak, a Hand Crumbed Chicken Schnitzel served with Fat Cut Chips or a Crispy Fried Pork Belly basted in Hoisin Glaze. Chef Steve has also catered for the vegetarian and vegans, with a delicious take on a Mushroom Ragout on a Roasted Pumpkin Wedge and Breaded Eggplant Schnitzel.

And let’s not forget, our City View Bistro dining experiences can also begin with a delicious entree. We suggest you try the spiced Cheese Croquettes, Bruschetta or Chicken Ribs. Then finish with a delectable dessert – Smoked Sticky Date Pudding, The ‘City View’ Dessert Burger or Raspberry or Ice Cream Nachos.

All dishes can also be accompanied with a glass or bottle of bubbly, a fine wine, freshly poured ice-cold tap beer or even a signature cocktail from the City View Bistro Bar.

Reimagined Bistro Classics

There's two things you wont find on the City View Bistro Menu – pub grub and tiny overpriced dishes. Here at the Melbourne Greyhounds we're all about value for money, friendly service and reimagined bistro classics.

'Bistro classics done better' has inspired us to look at Australia's favourite dishes and reimagine them into something more tasty and appealing. And this doesn't just revolve around main meals, but entrees and desserts too. The perfect example is our City View Dessert Burger, Brazilian Cheese Croquettes and Reef & Reef dishes. They are a far cry from what you're expect from a greyhound racing club in Broadmeadows.

Yes, we still have some bistro staples, but just don't expect them to be served like you'd get down at the local tavern, pub or gaming venue. Our downstairs Midas Cafe and Bar can trick you up a dish like that if you want one (at a very nice price)!

Great value dining and entertainment, every Saturday.

Today's current cost of living issues have indeed made a night out for a meal with family or friends harder to swallow. Here at the Melbourne Greyhounds we remain focused on providing an affordable night out and offering a unique experience. There's no entry fee to the racetrack, nor any car parking fees. Plus, our racebooks are also complimentary, as well as pens.

Every week we also offer a range of dining specials to help out the hip pocket. Seniors meals are just $17.50 each and this June and July kids can also enjoy a FREE meal when a main meal is purchased (and an Activity Bag full of goodies). Main meal prices start at just $22.

Quench your thirst, affordably.

A night out can quickly become a very expensive occasion once you add in the drinks. And it can also mean that second glass to complement a beautiful dish gets left out, as you try and save the pennies.

That's not the case in the City View. Our dining room bar serves moorish wines starting at $7 a glass and our early evening beverage specials (from 5 to 7pm) mean the budget can remain intact for a celebratory drink later in the night.

Should you like to go 'top shelf', we have an extensive list of beverages to whet any whistle! We also have a great selection of cocktails, should you want to make the night a really special one.

Grab a taste of the Paris Olympics and watch all action live on the screens

We're toasting the athletes on our track and the Aussies competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Make a reservation and dine in the City View Bistro on July 27, August 3 and August 10 and each diner receives a FREE beverage to cheer home the winners.

Plus, we will be serving some French inspired dishes to add some extra games flavour. July 27 is a Lavender Creme Brûlée, with chocolate shards. LET'S GO!

Upstairs Bistro is second-to-none, with great variety and value for money. For me, I love the terrace area, it's a magnificent set up for all. Colt S.

A really enjoyable experience! The food was without fault, fresh and delicious! We hadn’t been to the dogs for over 10 years but will be back again soon! Very impressive and adventurous desserts too. Cathy E.

Fantastic night out, food was great and we were well looked after. Best view and entertainment. Rose T.

Have to say the new menu is amazing. The evening was great, then dessert stepped it up to a new level. Chris S.

What an amazing low key fun Saturday night! If you're looking for something different and fun to do I highly recommend. Might even be a fun first tinder date. Kayte W.

Been talking about going for years. Wish I hadn't talked so much and done it earlier. Great night out, good services and will be back. Michael B.

Located in the Temlee Dining Room at 'The Meadows' our City View Bistro is the best kept dining secret in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
