LADBROKES Racing Club (LRC) and Schillaci will be looking to make it back-to-back victories in The Phoenix, with confirmation that the star chaser will again line-up in the Ladbrokes Racing Club slot in the 2024 edition of the race.

After the incredible scenes at The Meadows in 2023 when Schillaci delivered an all-the-way victory, it is appropriate that the dog that captured the imagination of the racing public will be lining up again in 2024.

Schillaci reminded everyone what he was capable of with a devastating 8.5L win in the Melbourne Cup heats, before showcasing a sizzling 4.98 first split to lead the Melbourne Cup Final, with severe interference on the first bend unfortunately putting paid to his winning chances.

Trainer Jihad Talgi said that last year’s victory was an experience he’ll never forget.

“The adrenaline and the atmosphere (in 2023) was unbelievable. To win it with Ladbrokes was something I’ll cherish forever. They (Ladbrokes) have shown huge faith in the dog and in me as a trainer, and to get the opportunity to go back-to-back with them is really special.”

Ryan Stanaway, General Manager of the Ladbrokes Racing Club, was excited to secure Schillaci again in 2024.

“Every sporting champion deserves their chance to defend their title, and Schillaci is no different. He’s earnt that right and his recent form indicates that he’s going to give them plenty of cheek again.
