Dailly’s Dish | Maturity and Fireball heats
Team Dailly head to The Meadows on Saturday night with a staggering 14 greyhounds (and three reserves).
Tom Dailly took us through each of his runners to give you the inside word.
THE FIREBALL HEATS
Race 2 – Ethanol Water (7)
“Trialed good on Monday at Meadows – she is as fit as a fiddle and should go alright especially with only six in it.”
Race 3 – Destiny Lane (4)
“She is a young dog with no pace but is bred to run 700. She seems to find herself in plenty of trouble in running. This is a very hard race, but I would like to see her run a good one.”
Race 4 – Zelda Covilha (1)
“He doesn’t have much pace and so box one will suit him with quick dogs in the race.”
Ethanol Water (5) claims the Pink Diamond Champion Distance Final at Geelong in a time of 38.98 seconds over the 680m.
MATURITY HEATS
Race 5
Ethanol Secret (3)
“He was eligible for the Maturity and hasn’t had a 700 yet so we decided the Maturity was the better option. His last couple of runs have been a bit ordinary.”
Wyong Dallas (6)
“He has been out for a while – we gave him a let up after he went to Queensland. I couldn’t pinpoint anything so decided a spell was best being a young dog. He will go into this a smidgen underdone but he has had a couple of trials and has gone really good.”
Wyong Dallas wins his Launching Pad Semi-Final at Sandown Park in April. Stopping the clock in a time of 29.27 seconds.
Race 7
Paw Barton (1)
“More of a 600-metre dog but was eligible for the Maturity.”
Slick Splits (4)
“He is a young dog that keeps improving and has got to the stage now that he is quiet a handy dog. I will be interested to see where he goes from here. When he was young, we took him to Ballarat and he went 25.29 seconds which I was very impressed with. Box four is going to do him no favours in the Maturity heats.”
Race 8 – Urana Cobalt (8)
“She is more of a 600 metre dog, but I do think she is drawn to get a clear run. This race is no easy task.”
Race 9
Ascend Ecstatic (1)
“She went good last week breaking 30 seconds. She has got a little bit of pace, and I think she can run a good race here.”
Paw Yanelle (5)
“She will need to lead because she isn’t that strong. If she steps, she is a fleeting chance at pinching this.”
Vista Weird (6) defeats a hot McKenna Memorial heat in June at Sandown Park (595m) in a time of 34.59 seconds.
Race 10
Sunset Wisp (4)
“This is a hard task, and I can’t see her winning – if she is any chance, she will have to lead.”
Vista Weird (5)
“He is destined for 600 or further… He doesn’t have much pace early and from box five, he is going to need a lot of luck. I wouldn’t be putting my house on him. As soon as he is finished in the Maturity series, he will continue to step up in distance.”
Race 11 – Upset Sunset (1)
“Another one of our 600 metre dogs – she has broken 34 seconds at Sandown, but I couldn’t see her leading this – Battling.”
Race 12 – Shima Time (7)
“He was checked last week when he was trying to get a run. If he clears them and gets a clean run – he is in with a chance.”
Shima Time (5) wins the Pink Diamond Rookie Sprinter Final at Geelong (460m) in June. Stopping the clock in a time of 25.98 seconds.
