2024/25 SPORTSBET VICTORIAN GREYHOUND AWARDS – THE WINNERS
The stars of the track and the champions behind the scenes were celebrated in style on Saturday night at The Meadows for the 2024/25 Sportsbet Victorian Greyhound Awards.
Explicit was the headline act – without even stepping onto the track. The brilliant sprinter was crowned the 2024/25 Sportsbet Victorian Greyhound of the Year, a fitting recognition of a season that delivered a Melbourne Cup–Phoenix double. Add in his retirement and classy comeback, and there was no doubting the panel’s decision to award him Victoria’s highest honour.
In the staying ranks, Ethanol Water shone brightest, earning the title of 2024/25 Sportsbet Stayer of the Year. Her consistency, grit, and Group race triumphs stamped her as the state’s premier stayer.
It was also a night of recognition for two icons of the sport, both inducted into the Victorian Greyhound Racing Hall of Fame.

• Ron Hawkswell, the legendary race caller and voice of greyhound racing for more than 50 years, beloved by fans across generations.
The prestigious Ken Carr Medal went to Ron Hood, whose perfectionist standards, tireless work, and unmatched skill in lure driving have made him the undisputed GOAT of his craft. His willingness to share his knowledge has elevated the entire sport.
The Ned Bryant ‘Silver Fox’ Award was presented to rising trainer Dallan Klemke. From humble beginnings catching greyhounds at Bendigo to training for the Hallan family, Klemke is building an impressive career with plenty more success on the horizon.

• Metropolitan Trainer of the Year – Tom Dailly
• Provincial Trainer of the Year – Mark Delbridge
• Metropolitan Strike Rate – Jason Thompson
• Provincial Strike Rate – Brad Greenough
Club Awards
• Event of the Year – Healesville Greyhound Racing Club’s Big Freeze, which raised more than $35,000 to Fight MND.
• Greyhounds Australasia Club Initiative of the Year (tie) – Shepparton Greyhound Racing Club’s Vet Clinic & Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club’s Eight Ball Association.
The night was a true celebration of excellence, dedication, and passion across every level of Victorian greyhound racing – from the track superstars to the people and clubs who keep the sport thriving.
