If you thought 2024 and the fourth edition of The Phoenix was big, then you ain’t seen nothing yet! 2025 will see this phenomenal race event rise to an even higher level.

Whether you’re eager to apply for one of the eight racing slots and be a slot holder, have your chaser in the race or want to be on course to witness this phenomenal race event, you won’t have to wait much longer. Below is The Phoenix Program for 2025, inclusive of all key pre-race activities, with the big dance to take place on the evening of Saturday December 13 at ‘The Meadows’ – The home of The Phoenix.

The fifth running of the Phoenix promises to be a phenomenal event. Every year this race event, and its build up, has grown. It now anchors GRV’s Sportsbet Dream Chasers Festival, as the final night of the Festival. The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association will further add to this event with a host of exciting activations and hospitality packages that will breath more life into the phenomenon this world-class race and event has quickly become.

Buy a place in the race

There are a number of exciting ways you can be part of the the worlds’s richest greyhound race – however, only one lets you be in the mix for a share of the $1.65 million in prize money and the $1 million first place winner’s cheque.

1. Apply for a slot

Whether you're a business, a greyhound lover, club, organisation or a group of friends – you're welcome to apply and be in the race for the $1 million prize cheque and the $1.65 million in prize money. Anyone can apply, however, should you be one of the eight chosen by the Melbourne Greyhounds independent Phoenix Racing Panel, you'll need $100,000 to secure your place.

What is well known by all past slot holders and their own experiences, is the lead up to the race, the exposure and the chance to make your fortune is real. And prize money is paid all the way down to 8th place, with places 5, 6, 7 and 8 each receiving $50,000.

2. Pick your chaser

When you head out to the 'The Meadows' to watch world-class greyhound racing, you can choose to place on a bet on any runner you like. Slot holders too have the same freedom – however, they get to choose who'd they'd like to have run on their behalf in the race.

The opportunity to select your very own chaser puts the odds in your favour. Either pick a proven champion or an in form up and comer, and come race night, you'll be on your selection! Plus, enjoy the chance to work with your chosen greyhounds' trainer to form a formidable team and map out a plan on how to have your runner cherry ripe on the big night.

The Phoenix - Phenomenal Fun

Last year saw close to 2000 people roll into 'The Meadows', to be part of the biggest party in greyhound racing. The concourse, terraces and dining room were awash with people enjoying a phenomenal Melbourne Greyhounds hospitality experience. 2025 promises more of the same!

A history full of 'wow' moments.

First run in December 2021, The Phoenix is the newest, most exciting race to hit the greyhound racing calendar in recent memory. In 2022 the event become the richest greyhound race in the world, with total prize money hitting $1.65 million, including $1 million going to the winning slot holder.

The first two editions of The Phoenix saw unprecedented media coverage and the Jackie Greenough trained ‘Wow She’s Fast’ go back-to-back, elevating her as the highest prize money earner of all time. Then it was a pizza shop owners turn with ‘Schillaci’ and Labrokes Racing Club to flip the script and bring to light that fortunes can be made by anyone! Last year it was Team Thompson all the way – as Awesome Lodge and Explicit completed a clean sweep to win The Phoenix.
